Windows XP : -Tcp/ip Tutorial and screenshots. -Resetting the TCP-IP using "netsh". (REVISED 10/13/2002)!
Thank you to John A.

OK there has been some confuZion with this cmd regarding the "netsh int ip reset" and the "netsh dump" commands.
Honestly I think and have been now informed that the "netsh int ip reset" is the correct way to reset the tcp-ip stack in XP.
I will show how to both although we will start with "netsh int ip reset"

When viewing the list of components for a network interface, you may notice that the Uninstall button is disabled when Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is selected. In Windows XP, the TCP/IP stack is considered a core component of the operating system; therefore, it is not possible to uninstall TCP/IP in Windows XP.

In extreme cases, reinstalling the Internet Protocol stack may be the most appropriate solution. With the NetShell utility, you can now reset the TCP/IP stack back to a pristine state, to the same state as when the operating system was installed.
Okay if you dont have time to read any of this and you just wanna reset TCP-IP and be done with it then execute the following commands.

The NetShell utility ( netsh) is a command-line scripting interface for the configuring and monitoring of Windows XP networking. This tool provides an interactive network shell interface to the user.

IMPORTANT;
To successfully execute the command, you must specify a log file name where actions taken by netsh will be recorded, As seen below.

How to execute netsh int ip reset;----------------------------------------------------------------------
Go to "Start/Run and type in "Command" to open a DOS Prompt.

Type in "netsh int ip reset reset.txt"

After you press enter you will returned to a prompt with your blinking curser.

This is normal, there will be no output after your enter this command. All the output will be placed in the text file that you specified in the command. In this case as shown above the text file will be "reset.txt"

The reset.txt will be located in the same folder/directory that you ran the command in. So like in this case the reset.txt file would be located in the Documents and Settings/SaltyNetGuru/ folder on the hard-drive.

Next is an example of "netsh dump", I say if the first doesnt work, go ahead and try this one.

Go to "Start/Run and type in "Command" to open a DOS Prompt.

Type in "netsh"

Then press enter. You will see DOS go into the netsh mode.

Then type in "dump" as shown below.

Then press enter. Type in "exit" and press enter, then close the DOS Prompt and your done.........Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

What is
netsh and what does it do?-------------------------------------------------------
netsh - is a command interface within DOS on Windows XP that performs TCP/IP and Networking commands and can reset and reconconfigure the TCP/IP stack within the Windows XP Operating System.

Okay in plain English what the H*ll does that mean........Well unless you are a Big Computer Geek (like myself) do not other than the dump command run any other commands. If you go beyond basics and start messin around in there, from what I gather you can kinda mess things up. .SO DONT!

Alright then what does the "dump" command in netsh do? Well from what I gather from running it myself on my BOX at home is that it totally dumps all the TCP/IP settings and reloads them, or something like that. Im still trying to figure it out and as I learn more I wil post it here.
