Outlook & Outlook Express "Preview Pane".

To limit the risk of virus infection thru email on Outlook or Outlook Express, Turn off the Preview pane.

Outlook and Outlook Express by default have what is called a preview pane turned on. It shows you the contents of an email in the bottom panel when you highlight a selected email in the top pane.

Now up to about a year ago this really wasnt a problem due to the only way you really had a chance of infecting your Computer with a virus thru email was to click on a file attachment (normally an executable .exe file). Things since then have changed, those very creative virus writers combined with Microsofts email clients (Outlook / Outlook Express) coupled with their default settings upon setup have now created a situation where just simple text emails or emails with a picture when just viewed will or can infect your PC with a computer virus. Turn the "Preview Pane" OFF!
