DM204c/5c/6c Internal Firewall description
When PipeLock is activated, it blocks communication between your computer and your service provider, thus preventing outsiders from accessing information on your computer. This will also of course prevent you from surfing the net. Read more below.
TIP; If the firewall is buggered up or set incorrectly this may cause issues for the customer while attempting to surf the NET. So have them reset the Modem back to defualts.
Cable Modem Notes; The HM201C/HM204c Cable Modems have just in the last few months been chosen by several I.S.P.'s as one of the Cable Modems they will be issueing to their customers so be on the look out for it.

IMPORTANT NOTE--- Access restricted STATE LED's; When in the Access Restricted state, the modem will complete initialization and respond to Management traffic, but will not allow data transfer between your computer and your service provider. This is an indication that the service provider is not allowing your modem on the system. When the LEDs indicate an Access Restricted state, you should contact your service provider.
During this state, the LED flashes slowly. The USB/Ethernet LED is normallyON, and blinks when there is activity.
Cable Modem NOTES: PipeLock and the built in statefull firewall.
I can tell you this that the Firewall settings include a slew of configurations for many protocols, such as ftp, http, POP3, ect ect. Also applications/programs such as "AOL Instant Messenger:, RealAudio", ect ect...you get the point. ..............HAVE FUN =).
What is enhanced PipeLock® security? The unique PipeLock offers three levels of security - Secure Pipe, Locked Pipe and Open Pipe. The default setting is Secure Pipe, which provides a secure connection to the Internet using SofaWare's Safe@Home Firewall solution. Firewall protection for an individual computer can be temporarily disabled using the Security Snooze feature.
The Locked Pipe setting turns PipeLock On, ensuring total security when you are not actively using the Internet. Open Pipe disables the firewall and offers no protection.
Some applications do not function when the firewall is enabled, such as when hosting some networking games. In such instances, you can use the Open Pipe setting or the Secure Pipe with Security Snooze setting to temporarily disable the firewall. These options do expose you to risk, and should only be used when absolutely necessary. The PipeLock button, located on the top of the PipeRider cable modem, is used to set the security level of the modem. By repeatedly pressing the PipeLock button, you can change the security level to Locked Pipe, Open Pipe or Secure Pipe.
