Trouble shooting RF-TV, Splitters and cabling

Now this has to be the one thing we all look foward the most....he he....:YA RIGHT"....anyway this can be made alot less frustrating if you check for some small but key elements that can save you alot of time and effort.

#1.
First of we all know to ask about the 10 lower and higher TV channels for any snow or static present on them.

#2.
Ask about any splitters they may have hooked up in the setup but more importantly what kind of splitters.

"Go to the splitter information page to learn more about differant types of splitter used in installations".

#3.
Ask what kind of Coaxial cable they have running from the splitter to the TV's, this is also applicable. Reason for this is that the quality of cable running " to the TV's will also affect the signal getting to the Modem, Ask the customer if it the cable high rated coaxial or if its just some they picked up at WalMart
or at the grocery store. One way to test out this theory is to ask the customer to disconnect all the TV's, either at the splitter or at the TV's themselves and see if your able to get them online at that point. You'd be suprised how often this will work.

#4.
Ask how long ago their installation was, The way this is helpfull is now typically installers are more strict on the type of cabling and the way they run it today then in the past. Meaning a install that was 2 or more years ago may not have as good of standards than one 6 months ago or 1 year ago. An older install may have multiple low qaulity splitters and cableing.

If you would like to add anything you may have learned or experienced regarding troublshoting RF please email me and I will post it here.
