Dial up Faq Windows 2000

(Ask if the customer has 10 digit dialing in their area)!

When setting up dial up properties you always need to ask the customer if they need to dial their area code to make a local call. Another very important peice of information that you also need to ask is wether or not they need to dial a 1 before the area code.NOTE: That in some areas now they have what is called 10 digit dialing not requiring the 1 be dialed before the area code.

You will notice by default Windows 2000 automatically places a #1 before the area code thus dialing a eleven digit # this of course if the # of the radius server is for example 707-225-0000 and the modem dials 1-707-225-000 they will not connect. So what I can telll you is that the way to get around this is to put the entire telephone number including the area code in just the telephone box to the right.

Another thing have the customer uncheck the area code/dialing rules.
