Internet Connection Tip! The biggest tip I can give anyone is to troubleshoot the Modem and connection first. It really isnt relevant what Windows or the Computer is doing if the Modem isnt setup/hooked up/powered up, ect ect correctly now is it. Thus always start with the modem and the Internet connection basics first!....Good luck and happy hunting.
Windows Me Tip! Another tip for anyone using Windows Me. This Operating System has many known bugs that even Microsoft admits to, Most of them guess what Internet/Network connection related. If you are ever having to upgrade or reinstall Windows for any or whatever reason, I suggest you look into installing a different version of Windows instead. Such as Windows 98 or 2000.
Firewall Tip! I always recommend to everyone to use a firewall.......ALWAYS!........BUT! It is preferable to use what is called a hardware firewall instead of a software firewall. OK whats the difference, in short a hardware firewall plugs into a power outlet much like a cable modem. A software firewall installs onto your computer like any other program. There are numerous advantages to a hardware firewall for a fraction more in cost. For instance all routers act as firewalls and also give you the ability to allow multiple computers to be online at the same time using only one Internet connection.
