TIP: To limit the risk of virus infection thru email on Outlook or Outlook Express, Turn off the Preview pane. Click here to see. Outlook and Outlook Express by default have what is called a preview pane turned on. It shows you the contents of an email in the bottom panel when you highlight a selected email in the top pane.

Now up to about a year ago this really wasnt a problem due to the only way you really had a chance of infecting your Computer with a virus thru email was to click on a file attachment (normally an executable .exe file). Things since then have changed, those very creative virus writers combined with Microsofts email clients (Outlook / Outlook Express) coupled with their default settings upon setup have now created a situation where just simple text emails or emails with a picture when just viewed will or can infect your PC with a computer virus. Turn the "Preview Pane" OFF!

#1. Have a Antivirus program that scans your email and keep it up to date with virus lists.

#2. Turn the Preview Pane of Outlook/Outlook Express OFF.

#3. Or just install Linux : ) ........problem solved forever!
