NOC Tools for the Com21 (Non DOCSIS Cable Modems) - Revised 12-23-2001

Com21's Cable modem system (ComUNITY Access System) is a wide area network that uses the cable TV network. It is formed by the center modem (comCONTROLLER), management terminal(NMAPS), and the user modem (ComPORT).

Okay this is what the NMAP (Network Management Provisioning System) Interface used for accessing the headend ComController looks like.

A ComController is what all the Com21 non-DOCSIS Cable Modems receive and send their signal to and from to keep it simple.

Now unforgantely NMAPS for the non DOCSIS Cable Modems (such as a Com21 DOXPort) isnt quite as infromative as the DOCSIS one. But thats ok there is still some useful infromation to obtain from it.

Such as RF and signal issues on the COM Controller, its blades and or slots. Below is what the NMAP interface for the NOC tools to run a db check on a specific Cable Modem and to also find out signal issues on that ComController, its cards and or slots.

Select CMTS :

Query:
Cable Modem Per RxM Card
Noise Level Per RxM Card
RxM Card Statistics
Convert Cable Modem from 1-Way to 2-Way
MAC Address field below is required.
Realtime COM21 Modem Statistics
MAC Address field below is required.
MAC Address format xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Cable Modem MAC Address:

Cable Modem Per RxM Card-There normally 200 Cable Modems aquired per card, this is the upstream port.(200 is the reccomendation from Cisco Systems).

Noise Level Per RxM Card- SNR. There is no upper limit that will cause a problem, though anything above 40db warrants investigation into other issues possibly causing problem. 20-34db is the expected range, though anything below 23 will cause ugly signal problems and packet loss if there is anyinstability with the connection.

RxM Card Statistics- Click here for screenshot , the Noise Level per RxM card this is the SNR for the com21. Also good to see if there is a capacity issue.

Convert Cable Modem from 1-Way to 2-Way-This one is self explanatory, to change a Com21's access method on the ComController from 1way (Telco) to 2way.

Realtime COM21 Modem Statistics-The exeptable signal ranges for the Cable Modem itself are as follows.

Power level down (receiving) 15 to +15dBmV
Power level up (sending) +8 to +58dBmV
Signal to Noise Ration (SNR) 25+db and Higher

You will notice when running a db check on a Com21 Cable Modems MAC id somehing called VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network).
