Macintosh OSX Networking:

To configure the Macintosh to use an Ethernet connection , first click on the Apple icon and then click Control Panel TCP/IP. That will open the TCP/IP (Setup Ethernet) window. Assuming that you're using a residential gateway or a router with a DHCP server, there is not much to do. If, however, you are
required to use a static IP address on each network computer, either because of your network setup or your ISP, you will need typical TCP/IP information, including IP address of the PC, the subnet mask, the router address, the name server address, and required search domains.

To configure the TCP/IP ethernet settings click here. <----------

The greatest difference between OS 9.x and OS X, from a home networking perspective, is consolidated configuration screens in OS X. Otherwise the steps for configuring either network type are similar. As with OS 9.x, configuration requires settings on one screen With DHCP, the following are the three required steps:

1#.
In the Connect Via drop down menu, select "Ethernet Built In" (this assumes an integrated or internal wired Ethernet adapter)

2#.In the Configure drop down menu, select "Using DHCP Server" (note at this point, if you are not using DHCP, choose Manually to enter the information listed above)

3#.Enter a unique client name, which can be anything you choose. At this stage you select the Close Window button and when a window pops up that prompts "Save Changes to Current Configuration?" --click Save and you're done. The quickest way to verify connectivity is to click "Browse the Internet" from the desktop, and you should have connectivity.

Note after you have saved the configuration and rebooted the computer, the TCP/IP information will be supplied automatically by the DHCP server, and you can view it through the TCP/IP Setup Ethernet window.
